Psychological Advisor to High-Performing Lawyers

I work with ambitious, high-performing lawyers who want to succeed without losing themselves in the process.

My clients range from associates building their careers and progressing towards partnership, through to experienced partners and senior leaders with significant management and leadership responsibilities.

They are often highly capable, conscientious and driven. They may be progressing quickly, stepping into greater authority or considering what they want from the next stage of their career. From the outside, things can look very successful.

However, high performance brings its own psychological demands.

You may be questioning yourself more than other people realise, working harder than you need to, finding visibility uncomfortable, carrying too much responsibility, struggling to switch off, or simply recognising that the way you have achieved success so far may not be what enables you to continue succeeding.

At other times, something happens that makes it difficult to keep going as usual. You may be experiencing bullying or a damaging professional relationship, facing a misconduct investigation, being asked to leave, dealing with an unexpected career setback, or reaching a point where it all simply feels too much.

I offer both psychological therapy and executive coaching for lawyers.

Therapy provides a confidential space to understand and work through psychological distress, difficult experiences and patterns that are affecting you. Coaching focuses on how you want to develop, perform and lead whether that means progressing towards partnership, stepping into greater authority, navigating cultural and leadership transitions, increasing your impact or finding a more sustainable way to succeed.

Sometimes the distinction is clear. Sometimes therapy and coaching can be combined as the work evolves.

My work sits at the intersection of psychology, performance and the realities of a legal career.

Where are you now?

Successful legal careers take different paths, but many of the psychological challenges that accompany progression, responsibility and success are remarkably similar.

On the way up

You are good at what you do. You want to go further.

Your career is gaining momentum. Expectations are increasing. You are taking on more complex work, greater responsibility and becoming more visible.

The challenge is continuing to progress without believing you have to work harder, prove more or become someone else to get there.

You made it. Now what?

You made partner. Now you need to become one.

After years of working towards partnership, arriving can feel surprisingly unfamiliar.

There is a new identity to step into, different expectations to navigate and decisions to make about how you want to operate at this level.

This is a chance to take stock, understand what needs to change and start making the shift from proving yourself through what you do to becoming more deliberate about how you lead, influence and use your time.

A focused five-session coaching programme called Becoming a Partner for new partners finding their feet and stepping into their new identity.

You made it. You want to show up at your best.

You don't just want to succeed as a partner. You want to see what you are capable of.

You are ready to stretch yourself, look more deeply at how you operate and let go of ways of working that may have helped you succeed but are no longer serving you.

The focus shifts from your own performance to the conditions you create around you: how you lead, develop people, build trust, use authority and create a team in which other high performers can thrive.

Sometimes that means building a strong micro-culture within a wider culture you cannot control so you need to consciously create a different experience for the people you lead.

Visibility with Ease and Steadiness

Your expertise is established. Now you need to be seen.

Speaking. Leading rooms. Building a profile. Developing business. Influencing senior stakeholders. Taking a position when it would be easier to stay quiet.

Greater visibility can activate surprisingly powerful psychological responses.

The aim isn't to become louder. It is to feel steady enough to let your expertise be felt and seen.

Impact time

You have built the career. Now where do you want to have the greatest impact?

At senior levels, the questions change.

What deserves your time? Where can your experience and influence make the greatest difference? What do you want to build, change or leave behind? What no longer needs to be carried by you? What needs to change to make your vision happen?

This is about using your experience, authority and influence deliberately.

Coaching for ADHD

The strategies that got you to Partner may no longer be enough.

ADHD coaching helps law firm partners work with their brain rather than against it. Together, we can address overwhelm, competing priorities, delegation, emotional regulation, difficult working relationships and the risk of burnout without losing the strengths that have contributed to your success.

Sometimes you just want good advice
You don't need a programme. You just need space to think.

A one-off advisory session gives you confidential access to an experienced psychologist and coach to think through a specific challenge, difficult decision or situation and decide what to do next.

Whether you are an associate, partner, barrister or general counsel, sometimes a one-off session is all you need.
