Handling the Inevitability of Change


We all go through numerous transitions in our lives, leaving education, changing jobs, changing relationships, having or not having children, getting to know our ageing bodies, taking care of ageing parents and the list goes on.

Transitions are the weeks or months or longer of awkward emotional spaces where we have cut ties with what we know and have not quite settled into what is new. Whatever the circumstances, navigating this grey zone of transitions can be difficult, presenting us with new problems and demanding us to respond in new ways. A healthy mind and body can be part of the solution of dealing with life’s changes.

It is widely known that exercise and healthy eating give the body energy and vitality. However how we exercise is receiving lots of scientific attention.

Many people think that cardio is the answer to everything related to weight-loss and fat-loss.  Although cardio can be helpful (if done properly), some researchers are now saying that it does nothing to slow the aging process.  In fact, it can do the exact opposite because doing long frequent cardio sessions can increase the production of free radicals that damage the cells in your body and accelerate aging.

Research is now focusing on the benefits of Short, High-Intensity exercise levels.

A study in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found the main reason we break resolutions is that our plans are over-ambitious: we set the bar too high in a hopelessly optimistic burst of enthusiasm. But this new short, high-intensity exercise regime lowers that bar significantly, making it more achievable for many people.

A myth that is being dispelled in the field of healthy eating is that fat is the enemy.  Fat does NOT make you fat.  In fact, good fat is an absolute must if you want your body to look and feel younger because healthy fats are an essential source of goodcholesterol, which is key to producing the hormones that enhance your youthful qualities and putting you in a fit state to deal with the challenges in life.
